Located 13 miles east of Hamilton, Texas in Hamilton County, the Diamond S
Ranch is only one hour and forty five minutes Southwest
of the Dallas/Ft. Worth metroplex. Situated in the most
northern part of the Hill Country, the terrain is perfect
for producing trophy whitetail deer.
Purchased in 1990 by Pete Smith, the ranch was an Exotic
Game Ranch. The initial plan was to continue to harvest
the exotics with a long term plan to focus exclusively on
trophy whitetail deer. Therefore, since the ranch had no
native whitetail deer, research was conducted about specific
genetics available from various breeders and in February
of 1991, several bred does and a few young brood bucks were
purchased from three of the top breeders in the state.
The ranch has been intensely managed from the very beginning
with an aggressive hunting program to harvest all remaining
exotics. Today, only trophy whitetail roam the beautiful
hills and ravines of the Diamond S Ranch. There is a year-round
supplemental feeding program consisting of protein, corn,
alfalfa, roasted soy beans and both summer and winter food
plots consisting of lab-lab, wheat, clover, biologic, oats,
and cow peas.
For the last several years, the Diamond S Ranch has produced
some of the best whitetail deer in the state with numerous
bucks scoring in the 160 gross B&C class up to 223 gross
B&C. The average live body weight of bucks harvested
is 235 pounds.
In 2000, the decision was made to become a licensed scientific
breeder (TX 1834). The pens were completed and decisions
made as to specific genetics required for our foundation
stock. Today we have genetics from several of the top breeders
in the state to include Hoof & Horns Ranch, The Refuge,
Trophy Ranch, R&M Rocky Creek Ranch, Backwoods Deer
Ranch, Hicks Whitetail Ranch, Browning Ranch, Sendero Whitetails,
Doublewide Whitetails, Snuff City Ranch and Tom Shumates
Whitetail Breeders of Texas. We are extremely excited about
the pedigree's we offer for sale to breeders or high fence
ranches that want to improve their genetics. We are a CWD
complete monitored cervidae herd with an enrollment date
of May 10, 2002.
